Summer is here and I hope this letter finds you all in good health and high spirits. This is a busy time and I wanted to update you on the latest news.
I just arrived in NYC from Tallin, Estonia where Carmen and I performed at the Music Festival. It was our first time there and a beautiful experience. Tallin is in Northern Europe, on the coast of The Baltic Sea across from Finland, and has sunlight almost 24 hours a day this time of year. It is quite an experience to see the sunset and sunrise within an hour if each other! We are 'bird people' so we wondered if this was confusing for the local avian population.... do they get any sleep in the summer ;-?
The concert was great, and thanks to Matt King, Tomas Sanchez, and Christian Van Kamphengst for their wonderful playing (and tolerance of the Mosquitos - whew!!!) And thanks to Piotr, Kalev, the rest of the folks at the festival and of course all the great fans.
I am in NY to begin a week at The Blue Note with Fourplay. I am so psyched to get to play 6 nights in a row with The Guys! If any of y'all are in the NYC area - please swing by. The band just spent two weeks recording the new CD in Los Angeles and we are in the process of mixing and mastering it now. I am extremely happy with how it is coming out. Working with Bob, Harvey, Nathan, and the ƒourplay team is a dream - and I can say with confidence it will be a very special and beautiful CD with lots of cool surprises. It will be released in the fall. Touring will pick up again in August with trips to Africa, The States, China and Japan among other places... stay tuned and check Fourplayjazz.com and Facebook for updates.
Speaking of birds - as many of you may know we have lived for the last 8 months with a pet Sparrow, Tweedy - who we rescued as a baby from our stove hood. He recently decided to take off and re-join the bird world.
We miss him like crazy, of course, but we are happy that he is flying free. We imagine that he has found a bride and started a Sparrow family (it is that time if year...) and we hope they all show up for dinner one night. He LOVED Carmen's cooking!
We will be posting a bunch of videos of our time with him on YouTube on the 'LifeWithTweety' channel. I put the first one up last night.
Also - since we began visiting the local pet shop for supplies, we got to know some of the little guys there... and when Tweety took off we took home four (that's right 4!!!) little 'isabelits de Japon' birds who had been in the shop for about a year! Their names are: El Capitan, Katy, La Niña, and Marvin (he looks a little like Marv Albert...) We will put up photos in the next edition of the newsletter.
Carmen's "Mi Bossa Nova" CD is all set for a Europe-wide release in late August on the C.A.R.E. music label, and she will be starting to do touring there soon after. Also - if you haven't seen the video of her song "Tormenta" you can find it on YouTube or her website media page.
The girls are happy and healthy and working in their old stomping grounds in NYC - living just a few blocks from where they grew up. Chris just had her 25th B'Day!!! Amazing....
